Apple Events: Marvel Sequel or Ex's Wedding?

He Said:

iPhone Events are like Marvel movies: initially cool but lately, struggling to reinvent themselves. At one time, iPhone was new and novel. The technology was new and novel. The announcement events were there to showcase it. Now, almost 20 years later, it seems like it's become a shell of itself, and they're afraid to break the formula.

Listen, it’s cool that we have super-waterproof-ceramic-titanium-lidar-tetraprism-retina-5g-satellite phones, but that sets the bar pretty high for the next time. Honestly, I’m just impressed that Apple is able to mass-produce these things at all!

In September 2025 it feels acceptable to say the iPhone is feature-complete. And like all such devices, it has become a little boring. Kind of like a computer—because it is a computer.

The 2025 Apple Event "Awe Dropping" felt more like something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.

Something old (Apple Watch Series 11) to connect her to her past

Something new (Live Translation) represents the couple's future

Something borrowed (iPhone 17) brings shared fortune from happily married couple

Something blue (iPhone Air) symbolizes love, purity, fidelity, and warding off bad luck

Beneath the shimmer of polished aluminum or ceramic shield, there is quiet sadness. We gather around these launches like guests at a wedding, sitting in anticipation and hoping for magic. Some of us might even record the whole thing to post it later. Yet what we are celebrating is another device to retreat into.

This sadly comes at a time when technology is creating real challenges for our children's attention spans and their education. It's also replacing our curiosity.

I used to really love Apple. But I have fallen out of love. It's almost like I'm the ex who was given a sympathy invite and now I'm filming the wedding of a stranger I thought I’d marry.
